Ann Oviatt, 77, of Indianola, died of cancer on Monday, October 4, 2004, at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.
She was born in Alta [on May 19, 1927]*, and had lived in Pomeroy, Barnum, Kellerton, Norwalk, and Storm Lake before moving to Indianola two years ago. She was a homemaker and had also taught elementary education many years ago. She enjoyed playing bridge unless the Cubs were playing ball. She also enjoyed each and every one of her grandchildren. Ann was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Indianola.
Ann is survived by her children, William (Rhonda) Oviatt, of Winterset, Daniel (Susan) Oviatt, of Grand Junction, Colorado, Jane (Calvin) Sorensen, of Pioneer, Mary (Gary) Pennington, of Norwalk, James (Lori) Oviatt, of Carnation, Washington, and Jean (Steve) Kinyon, of Afton; her brother, William Toohey, of Storm Lake; her sister, Mary Berniece Rian, of Tucson, Arizona; twenty-two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Oviatt; her grandson, Eric Oviatt; her brother, Richard Toohey; and her parents, William and Hannah Elizabeth Toohey.
The Overton Funeral Home in Indianola is handling service arrangements.
Graveside services for Ann Oviatt will be held Friday, October 8, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. at St Mary's Cemetery, Storm Lake. Visitation will be held 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 7, 2004, at the Overton Funeral Home where the family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be designated, on behalf of her grandson, Jason Sorensen, to the Story County Community Life Program, 104 South Hazel, Ames, IA 50010.
