Ardelle Valentine
August 2, 1921 - May 6, 2011Ardelle Valentine, age 89, of Albert City, Iowa, died Friday, May 6, 2011, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa.
Ardelle Tool, the daughter of Claude H. and Grace M. (Post) Tool, was born near Laurens, Iowa, on August 2, 1921. She received her education at the Laurens School.
On September 14, 1939, Ardelle married Richard Valentine. This couple was blessed with six children: Richard J., Joy, Mary, Tena, Joe, and Michele. For sixty-five years, Ardelle lived in the Albert City community where she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She attended the Albert City Evangelical Free Church. Up to one month before to her death, Ardelle volunteered at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City.
Ardelle especially enjoyed taking day trips with her children. Gifted in doing various types of handwork, she crocheted many beautiful doilies and tablecloths and made many prayer shawls. Ardelle also had a love for music and singing.
Ardelle’s life is celebrated and lovingly remembered by her children: Richard J. (Karen) Valentine, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Joy, and her companion, Mel Butcher, of Laurens, Iowa, Mary (Joe) Fischer, of Rolfe, Iowa, Tena (Gene) Richardson, of Waterloo, Iowa, Joe (Sarah) Valentine, of Lexington, Ohio, and Michele (Michael) Young, of Savannah, Georgia; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; eight step-great grandchildren; two step-great-great grandchildren; and other extended family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; and one brother, Orlan R. Tool.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City. Burial will be in the Laurens Cemetery in Laurens, Iowa. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m., Monday, May 9, 2011, at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City with the family present at that time. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
