July 15, 1931 - April 25, 2004

Elizabeth Louise (Betty Lou) Loomis, 72, of Monmouth, was pronounced dead at 10:00 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2004, at her home.

Betty was born July 15, 1931, in Alta, the daughter of Louie and Rachael (Olson) Olsen.

She was raised and educated in Alta, Iowa. Afterwards, she earned a teaching certificate from the State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She married Forrest Loomis on June 7, 1953, in Alta. They were married for thirty-two years.

Since 1974, Betty worked as Assistant Director and Acquisitions Librarian at the Warren County Library. She also taught at the Warren Achievement School in Monmouth, Illinois. At one time, she taught kindergarten in Ankeny.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed working at the Library, reading, watching movies and going to concerts.

Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She also served as Den Mother for her son's Cub Scout Pack.

Betty had a beautiful spirit that endeared her to her loving family, her fellow library family, her friends and fellow citizens of the community. Betty was a gentle, kind-hearted individual who loved people and always had the best interest of others at heart. She was generous, helpful and dedicated in everything that she did, and her positive attitude let her rejoice in the good fortunes of others.

Surviving are one son, Scott (Kelly) Loomis, of Ohio, Illinois; one daughter, Diane (Tim) McKillip, of Ballwin, Missouri; two grandchildren, Ashley and Courtney Loomis, both of Ohio, Illinois; two step-grandchildren, Chrissy (Danny) Darst, of Galesburg, and Amy (Ryan) Bronaugh, of the Great Lakes Naval Base, Waukegan, Illinois; and three step-great grandchildren; and one brother, Virgil (Nora) Olsen, of Emeryville, California, along with a niece, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her step-father, Ernie Vieregge.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 30, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Donald Jackson officiating. Burial will be in the Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was held Thursday, April 29, 2004, at the Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth. Memorials may be left for the Warren County Library.
