Verna Kraemer
November 11, 1915 - January 18, 2011

Verna Kraemer, age 95, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died January 18, 2011, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Verna W. Schuelke, the daughter of Henry and Lydia (Lichtenberg) Schuelke, was born on a farm in rural Alta, Iowa, on November 11, 1915. She received her education at St. John’s Lutheran School in Hanover where she graduated from the 8th grade. Prior to her marriage, Verna served as a housekeeper.

On June 27, 1943, Verna was united in marriage to Walter Kraemer at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hanover. Subsequently, this couple was blessed with two children, Stanley and Barbara.

Walter and Verna devoted themselves to their farming operation in rural Alta. Verna also enjoyed making a home for her family. After Walter died on December 21, 1982, Verna continued to make her home on their farm until she reached the age of 85. At that time, she moved to Storm Lake and resided at Lake Pointe Villa. She came to make her home at the Methodist Retirement Community on May 18, 2004, where she lived until her death.

Verna was a devoted and faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. She enjoyed spending time outdoors and especially liked doing the mowing on the farm. Verna also did various types of handwork including embroidery and crocheting.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her children: Stanley and Shirley Kraemer, of Newell, Iowa, and Barbara Kraemer, of Des Moines, Iowa; her grandchildren: Michele Lynch, Joseph Kraemer, Walter Guttenfelder, Jennifer Golay, and Jean Shepherd; her great grandchildren: Shelby Lynch, Abby Kraemer, Lane Kraemer, and Walter and Henry Golay; her two brothers: Henry Schuelke, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Leo Schuelke, of Des Moines, Iowa; her sister, Marian Schuelke, of Des Moines, Iowa; as well as her nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; and six brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 22, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Friday, January 21, 2011, from 6-8:00 p.m. with the family present during that time at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
