Urban John Snyder, age 80, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died January 9, 2011, at his home.
Urban John Snyder was born on February 19, 1930, to John and Josephine (Coon) Snyder in Breda, Iowa. He was baptized and later confirmed at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. Urban attended grade school at St. Bernard’s Catholic School, and following in his father’s footsteps at the age of fourteen, he began his life as a farmer.
On August 4, 1953, Urban was united in marriage to Deloris Pfiefer at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hayfield, Minnesota. They were blessed with five children: Cathy, John, Donna, Tom and Kay.
Urban continued to farm on the family farm until he moved to Storm Lake from Breda in 1963. Nonetheless, he continued his love for farming as an active member of the Farm Bureau and as a 4-H Leader. He also found joy in restoring old tractors.
Urban enjoyed participating in the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters. When he was not farming, he loved playing in card clubs with his many friends and spending time with his family, creating memories for them, especially for his grandchildren. His many nieces and nephews were always very special to him.
He was known for loving life and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Deloris, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: Cathy Madson, of Storm Lake, John Snyder, of Storm Lake, Sister Donna Snyder, FSPA, of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Tom (Kris) Snyder, of Storm Lake, and Kay (Ted) Lenhart; his grandchildren: Andee and Michael Madson, Allison (Doug) White, Kayla (Kevin Wells) Snyder, Matt Snyder, Colby, Tanner and Kendall Snyder, Anyssa, Alan, Dane and Trisha Lenhart; his great grandchild: Brock White; his sisters: Sister Jocelyn Snyder, FSPA, of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Dolora Snyder of Superior, Wisconsin, and Lois (Merlin) Thelen, of Marble Falls, Texas; his sister-in-law, Rose Snyder, of Carroll, Iowa, as well as extended family and many friends.
Urban was preceded in death by his parents, John and Josephine; his brother, Rudell Snyder; his brother and sister-in-law, Norbert and Ethel Snyder; and his sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Irwin Stork.
Visitation: 3-8:00 p.m. January 12, 2011, with family present from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Vigil Service: 7:00 p.m. January 12, 2011, followed by a KC rosary at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. January 13, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Interment: January 13, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa.In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
