Hazel Zoffka

Hazel L. (Walton) Zoffka was born on April 15, 1911, to George and Addie May (Daily) Walton in Alta, Iowa. She attended grade school and graduated from Alta High School. In 1947, Hazel joined the Schaller United Methodist Church and continued to celebrate her faith there throughout her life.
On December 28, 1932, Hazel was united in marriage to Roy B. Zoffka. They were blessed with three children: Patricia, Jeralyn, and Donavon.
Hazel was employed as a cook at the Schaller Hospital and at the Schaller School. She was known for her delicious family dinners, which often included her family's favorites, cinnamon rolls and strawberry pie. For years, she also shared her love of cooking by supervising the funeral dinners at the Schaller Methodist Church and by catering for Rotary Club events as well as for many other community functions. She remained very active in the UMW at her church and served as the chair for the Memorial Committee.
She was often a caregiver for her many grandchildren and is remembered for morning coffees and “cheating” at games.
Those left to cherish Hazel’s memory include her children: Donovan (Carol) Zoffka, of Glendale, Arizona, and Jeralyn (Ray) Voss, of Schaller, Iowa; her son-in-law Col. Don Risk, of Fort Washington, Maryland; her grandchildren: David (Pauline) Risk, of South Windsor, Connecticut, Doug (Kaye) Risk, of Welcome, Maryland, Julie Geopfert, of Dodge, Iowa, James (Diane) Voss, of Ames, Iowa, Jeffrey (Tammy) Voss, of Schaller, Iowa, Jon (Julie) Voss, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Jason Zoffka of Phoenix, Arizona; ten great-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; eight step-great-great-grandchildren; as well as extended family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her daughter, Patricia Risk; her parents; five brothers: Archie, Albert, Clarence, Delbert and Forest; and four sisters: Florence, Blanche, Patricia and Mabel.
Visitation: 4-7:00 p.m. January 10, 2011, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. January 11, 2011, at the Schaller United Methodist Church, Schaller, Iowa.
