Murray Lowell Pedersen, age 91, of Storm Lake, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2004, at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

The son of Edward C. and Mary (Jurgensen) Pedersen, Murray L. Pedersen was born on July 28, 1912, in Alta. He attended and graduated from Fairview Consolidated School in rural Alta in 1931. After graduation, Murray began farming on the family farm.

On August 8, 1936, Murray was united in marriage to Alta Maust in Waterloo. This union was blessed with three children: Kathleen, Nancy and Allan. Murray and Alta raised their family near Alta. An innovative thinker, Murray used logic and creativity in many ways to make life better on the farm. His hard work and strong family values made him an excellent provider for his family. Murray and Alta were married over 60 years when she passed away in 1997, and in 1998, Murray moved into the Buena Vista Manor and later that same year, he moved into the Methodist Manor.

Serving the Lord was an integral part of Murray's personality. A member of the Center Grove Evangelical Church as well as the Hope Evangelical Free Church in Storm Lake, he expressed his Christian faith in various ways.

Murray appreciated life and enjoyed many activities including walleye fishing and reading. He could often be found fishing at one of his favorite fishing spots. Most of all, however, he cherished spending time with his family who loved him very much. He will always be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Murray is survived by his three children: Kathleen Stoughton, and her husband, Robert, of Alta, Nancy Andrews, and her husband, Jerril, of Shafer, Minnesota, and Allan Pedersen, and his wife, Diane, of Alta; six grandchildren: Tim Stoughton, of Sioux City, Mark Stoughton, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, John Andrews, of Lindstrom, Minnesota, Lisa Lewis, and her husband, Craig, of Denver, Colorado, Ron Pedersen, and his wife, Kelli, of Alta, and Tyler Pedersen, also of Alta; two great-grandsons: Kodey and Kash Pedersen, of Alta; two sisters: Jessamae Palmer, of McLean, Virginia, and Beth Sjoberg, of Aurelia and many other loving relatives and friends.

Preceding Murray in death were his parents and his wife.

A funeral service was held Monday, March 1, 2004, at the Hope Evangelical Free Church in Storm Lake with Reverend Jim Hofman officiating. Burial was in the Storm Lake Cemetery. The Sliefert ~ Asmus Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
