Betty (Steward) McGowan, age 83, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died December 22, 2010, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Betty Ann Steward was born November 10, 1930, in Sutherland, Iowa, the daughter of DeForest and Mabel (French) Steward. Growing up, she attended school in Cherokee and graduated from Cherokee High School in 1949.
On October 13, 1949, Betty was united in marriage to Delmar McGowan in Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with five children.
Betty worked at JC Penny’s in Storm Lake until she retired in 2004. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake and volunteered at the Senior Center.
In her spare time, Betty enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening as well as reading and canning.
Betty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who cherished her family above all earthly interest. She will be forever missed.
Betty is survived by her son, Terry, and his wife, Ann McGowan, of Urbandale, Iowa; her daughters: Patricia, and her husband, Dean Batt, of Stamford, Nebraska, and Peggy, and her husband, Mark Pottorff, of Sergeant Bluff; her grandchildren: Loretta Batt, of Des Moines, Iowa, Philip, and his wife, April Batt, of Orleans, Nebraska, DeAnna, and her husband, Matt Ruskamp, of Greenwood, Nebraska, Ashley Batt, of Stamford, Nebraska, and Justin, Michelle and Scott Pottorff, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; her six great grandchildren; her sister, Velma Martin, of Cherokee, Iowa; and extended family and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sons: Gary Allen and Delmar Lee, Jr.; her sisters: Fern, Erma, Doris, and Beverly; and her brothers, Lloyd, Louis, Wayne and Jim.
Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. December 27, 2010, at United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Iowa
Visitation: 3-6:00 p.m., December 26, 2010, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa
