May 11, 1914 - January 9, 2004

Lucille Long, 89, of Storm Lake, died January 9, 2004, at the Trident Reginal Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.

Lucille was born May 11, 1914, in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Harry and Bernice Gresher (Greszowich)* Tegard. She graduated from Illinois State University and married Charles E. Long on November 3, 1934, Peoria, Illinois.

Mrs. Long taught school at Peoria, Rockford, and Hinsdale, Illinois. She helped develop the Head Start Program for Buena Vista County; she was a member of the National Society, Buena Vista Chapter of the DAR, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Tuesday Study Club. She was a member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church where she served as president of the Big Sister Program. Her church family and friends were an important part of her life.

Other volunteer activities included Cub Scout Den Mother, Methodist Manor, Meals on Wheels, and the Buena Vista County Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bridge, spectator sports, all types of music and stage entertainment.

Her family includes a daughter Judith of Charleston, South Carolina; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Joan, of San Mateo, California; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; a son, Jeffery; a brother and a sister.

A memorial service for Lucille Long was held January 11, 2004, at Stuhr's Funeral Chapel in Charleston, South Carolina, with the Reverend Dan Barton officiating.
