Floyd J. Petersen
July 8, 1916 - June 19, 2003

A son of Frank and Elsie (Johnsen) Petersen, Floyd J. Petersen, 86, of Alta, was born on July 8, 1916, at home on a farm near Linn Grove.

While in his early teens, he went to work for paving crews with his father.

On July 13, 1940, he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Pattee of Alta. For the first eleven years of their marriage, they lived in the surrounding states and across Iowa while Floyd was still working for paving crews. The next eight years, they lived in Webster City where he worked for the city street department. In 1959, the family moved back to Alta, and Floyd went to work for the BV County Highway Department until his retirement.

On June 9, 2001, his wife, Mary, passed away. Floyd stayed at his residence in Alta until October of 2002 when he moved into Careage Hills in Cherokee.

Floyd enjoyed camping, taking care of the fair grounds and race track, and working on his own vehicles.

Floyd passed away on June 19, 2003, in Cherokee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his parents; one brother, Duane Petersen; one sister, Joyce Hildreth; and one daughter-in-law, Linda Petersen.

Floyd is survived by two sons, Frank Peterson, and his wife, Karen, and Rodney Petersen, and his wife, Linda, all of Alta; one daughter, Pat Rimmer, and her husband, Ivan, of Granville; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Mortensen, of Hemet, California; and one sister-in-law, Betty Pacynski, and her husband of Kennewick, Washington.

Funeral services for Floyd Johnsen Petersen were held on Monday, June 23, 2003, at the Barker Funeral Home in Alta with Pastor Duane Olson officiating. Burial was in the Scandinavian Cemetery in Alta.
