Norma Brandsgard, 90, of Humboldt, passed away October 23, 2010, at her home.
Norma Enola Clayton was born November 25, 1919, in Linn Grove to William J. and Lula (Otten) Clayton.
Her parents purchased a Variety Store in Humboldt in 1932, and they moved to Humboldt. She graduated from Humboldt High School in 1937 and went to work in her parents' store. On December 25, 1941, Norma married Floyd Brandsgard. Following her marriage she continued to work in her parents' store.
In 1946, her parents retired. Norma and Floyd bought the store and went into partnership with Norma's sister, Ora, and her husband, Ed. Floyd and Norma operated the store together until August 1962 when Ora and Ed sold out their shares in the business. Norma and Floyd operated the store until 1979 when they closed out the business and retired.
Norma was an active member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. She served as a Sunday school teacher, became a member of the Alta Guild, and was Chairman of her Circle for a number of years. Norma was very generous with her time and her heart. She was very quick to volunteer both at her church and at the hospital whenever needed. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Norma is survied by her daughter, Kris (Bill) Hansen; her grandsons: Jay Hansen (Merri Powell), of Humboldt, Aaron Hansen, of Cedar Falls, and Doug (Ashley) Hansen, of Kasson, Minnesota; and one great grandson, Lukas Hansen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, her parents, one sister and one brother.
Funeral services were held October 27, 2010, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Interment was in Indian Mounds Cemetery. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt was in charge of the arrangements.
