Maxine M. Brisbois, age 86, died November 8, 2010, at Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake.
Maxine May Ashba was born February 10, 1924, in rural Maxwell, Iowa, to Ray and Pearl (Garlock) Ashba. She attended school in Maxwell, Iowa, and graduated in 1942. After completing from high school, she attended the American Institution of Business in Des Moines, Iowa, graduating in 1944.
Maxine was a semi-pro basketball player and attended the state tournament the only time her school qualified. Maxine played for the baseball team that the movie “A League of Their Own,” was based on.
Following graduation, Maxine worked in Des Moines and Chicago until moving to Storm Lake, Iowa. In 1947, she graduated from Western Iowa Tech School of Nursing and worked in the Nursing field in Storm Lake and Cherokee, Iowa, for many years. Maxine worked for Dr. Mallard for 30 years, retiring from IBP in 1987.
On November 30, 1951, Maxine was united in marriage to Donald Wayne Brisbois at the United Methodist Church Parsonage in Storm Lake. They were blessed with five children: Connie, Randy, Mike, Kristi and Robert.
Maxine was a member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, the Hospital Auxiliary, and the Eastern Star at one time. She was very active in the community. Maxine enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe, Jamaica and Hawaii. She loved flowers and cooking. Maxine treasured her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Randy Brisbois, Mike Brisbois, Kristi, and fiancé, Dale Hahn, and Robert Brisbois; her grandchildren: Nicole (Bob) Nichols, Justin (Jordan) Gaffey, Tom Brisbois, and fiancée, Jess, and Jordan Brisbois, and special friend, Rachel; her great grandchildren: Hailey and AJ Gaffey and Kali and Kinlei Nichols; her sister, Margaret Henning, of Maxwell, Iowa; her sister-in-law, Marge Pender; and extended family and friends.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Pearl; her husband, Don; her daughter, Connie Brisbois; and her sister, Betty Hunter.
Visitation: 5-8:00 p.m. November 10, 2010, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. November 11, 2010, at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Iowa
