Gwen Bergendoff, age 73, of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away November 3, 2010, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Mary Gwen Erickson, daughter of Roland and Dorothy (Williams) Erickson, was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on December 15, 1936. She graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1954. During that time, Gwen met her husband.
On April 13, 1957, Gwen was united in marriage to Robert Bergendoff in Kansas City, Missouri. They were blessed with three daughters: Lisa, Lori and Linda.
Gwen and Bob enjoyed 53 years of marriage. One highlight was the wonderful week they spent celebrating their 50th anniversary with their children and families at Fort Myers Beach, Florida.
In 1994, Gwen moved to Storm Lake. She enjoyed being co-owner of Bearingtons with her daughters, Lisa and Lori. She enjoyed being in the store and loved going to market to pick out new merchandise.
In her retirement, Gwen spent many hours playing Bridge with various Bridge groups. She was an active member of the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and looked forward to the Festival of Trees every year. Gwen was also an integral part of the organization, implementing a renovation of the landmark, Santa’s Castle. Many of Gwen’s favorite hobbies included: golfing, gardening, sewing and game playing with her family (only if she won). She will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Those left to cherish Gwen’s memory are her husband, Robert Bergendoff, of Storm Lake; her daughters: Lisa (Loren) Anderson, of Marathon, Iowa, Lori (Curt) Haberman, of St. Louis, Missouri, and Linda (Ronnie) Weber, of New Orleans, Louisiana; her grandchildren: Brian Anderson, of Norfolk, Nebraska; Brittany Anderson, of Ames, Iowa; Michelle Anderson, of Marathon; Hannah and Erin Haberman, of St. Louis; one brother, Duncan (Jeanne) Erickson, of Salem, North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Marge (Dave) Versprille, of St. Louis; a brother-in-law, Ray (Connie) Bergendoff, of Massachusetts; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Roland and Dorothy Erickson.
