Arlene L. Bright, of Sioux Rapids, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2003, at the Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids at the age of 81 years, 10 months, and 14 days.

Arlene Lucille Bright was born to Irwin "Obe" and Edna Grace (Messerschmidt) Cuthbert in a small house in Sioux Rapids on June 19, 1921. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church in Sioux Rapids. She attended Cornell School for a few years and graduated from the Sioux Rapids School in 1938 at the age of 16.

On June 30, 1940, Arlene was united in marriage to Floyd Earl Bright. This union was blessed with three children: Barbara, Beverly, and Steven.

Arlene was employed at the Highway Café and later at the Simonsen Iron Works, retiring from there after 20 years. She was also the custodian for the Methodist Church for 20 years.

She enjoyed her church, singing, dancing, playing cards, and being with people. She was active in Jolly Elders, Dinner Date, Young At Heart, and Merry Widows. She also participated in Babes for several years.

Arlene is survived by two daughters: Barbara Bright, of Sioux Rapids and Beverly Pomeroy and her husband Patrick, of Oceanside, California; her brother, Dale Truesdell and his wife Pauline, of Sioux Rapids; her sister Jeanette Benson, of Astoria, Oregon; her brother-in-law, Carter Brock, of Sioux Rapids; her sister-in-law, Fern Bright, of Sioux Rapids; her granddaughters: Jennifer and Traci Pomeroy, of California; her grandson, Kevin Bright, of Sioux Rapids, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceding Arlene in death were her parents, her husband Floyd, her son, Steven, and her sister, Dorothy Brock.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids with Reverend Emily Allen officiating. Interment was in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert-Asmus Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids was in charge of the arrangements.
