Lois Stiles, age 79, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Sunday, October 31, 2010, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Lois Jean McCue, the daughter of Stanley and Lelia (Padgett) McCue, was born on January 28, 1931, in Sioux City, Iowa. She was baptized and later confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City. She received her education from East High School and Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City.

In 1950, Lois was united in marriage to E. Eugene Stiles. This union was blessed with four children: Karen, Dale, Ted and Tim. The family made their home in Sioux City where Lois lived for 56 years before moving to Storm Lake where she resided for 23 years.

Lois began her career at Roe Dairy in Sioux City where she held many positions, ultimately working as bookkeeper. Later Lois worked for several years as a bookkeeper for Wagner, Garrison & Abbott in the stockyards. There she also joined the Stockettes, a social organization for women who worked at the stockyards. She also worked for the ISU Extension Office in both Sioux City and Storm Lake as the Area Office Manager for 15 years, retiring in 1994.

After retiring, Lois volunteered for Storm Lake United Methodist Church in the church office for the past 16 years. One of Lois’ fondest activities was helping her daughter, a teacher in Des Moines, arranging, organizing, and typing the schedule for a 17-day Florida Marine Biology Trip for 100 students. She also enjoyed gardening, helping people in need, and bowling in the Thursday Night Women’s League.

Lois faithfully cared for her husband, Eugene, during his 30 year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Consequently, she worked to establish the Siouxland Alzheimer’s Chapter, becaming a charter member.

In 1998, Lois married Patrick Rydell while remaining an active and faithful member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church. He participates as an active and faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Lois was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother often times serving as the ultimate caregiver. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Patrick Rydell, of Storm Lake; her children: Dr. Karen Stiles (Mike Schaffer) of Des Moines, Iowa, Dale (Paul) Barmore of Rockton, Illinois, Ted (Monica) Stiles of Houston, Texas, and Tim (Chris) Stiles of Sioux City, Iowa; her grandchildren: Laurel (Sam) Schmitz, Dan Barmore, Tom Barmore, Andrew Stiles, Matthew Stiles, Megan Stiles ,and Brett Stiles; her great grandchildren: Tanner Barmore and Bram Schmitz; her step-children: Dr. Patrick (Betsy) Rydell of Littleton, Colorado, and Gail (Tom) Becker of Hartington, Nebraska; her step-grandchildren: Colin Rydell, Meghan Rydell, John (Amy) Becker, Janelle Becker, and Nell and Laura Schaffer; special nephews, James (Bobbie) Stiles of Niceville, Florida, and Dwayne (Renee) Rydell of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; along with other extended family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband, E. Eugene Stiles (1997), and her parents, Stanley and Lelia McCue.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. November 04, 2010, at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Iowa
Visitation: 4-7:00 p.m. November 03, 2010, at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Iowa
Interment: November 04, 2010, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa
