Tina K. Donath
May 2, 1949 - Sept. 21, 2010

Tina K. Donath, age 61, of Storm Lake, died Sept. 21, 2010, at her home in Storm Lake.

Tina was born on May 2, 1949, in Geneva, Ill., to Fredric Johnson and Charlotte Edwards Johnson. She graduated from high school in suburban Chicago. While earning a bachelor's degree at Illinois College in Jacksonville, she met her future husband, Benjamin B. Donath. Afterwards, she went on to earn a master's degree in philosophy from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

The Donaths moved to Storm Lake in 1977 when Ben took a job as a math professor at Buena Vista University.

Tina taught at Fonda OLGC School, was curator of the Buena Vista County Historical Society and joined the staff of The Storm Lake Times 14 years ago. She primarily covered education and local government. She also wrote a column, "The Cheap Chicken," where she whimsically offered suggestions on simply living.

She loved plants and flowers and tried to keep the garden green at the Times office or anyplace else she touched. She also was a reader, dedicated walker and movie buff.

Often she would return to Storm Lake from a bout of chemotherapy in Sioux City and could be found working late into the night, alone, preparing for the next day's newspaper.

Tina and Ben have one daughter, Adrienne Alexis, who is a public information specialist for the State of Minnesota in St. Paul. Tina also is survived by her husband, mother Charlotte McGee and sister Beth Glenn, both of Clinton, Ill.

Visitation took place on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Tina donated her body to the School of Science at Des Moines University in Des Moines. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.
