Inez Burkhart, 83, Webb, formerly of Sulphur Springs, died on July 12, 2002, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital.

Sarah Inez McArthur was born on August 31, 1918, at Sulphur Springs, the daughter of Francis and Maggie (Watts) Springs.

Inez was educated at Lincoln Lee School, graduating from high school in 1935. She attended Buena Vista University for two years and taught at Garfield Township School in Clay County.

In June of 1938, Inez married Keith Burkhart at Jackson, MN. The couple made their home in the Webb area since then. Inez was active in the operation of the family farm and the Quarter-horse business. She did the bookkeeping and was an expert in quarter horse papers.

Inez was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Ladies Group. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, and cooking.

Survivors include her husband Keith Burkhart of Webb; daughter Dixie (James) Igou of West Bend, WI; grandchildren: Frank Igou, Stephanie Kertscher, Clayton Burkhart and Josy Burkhart-Johnston; great grandchildren: Tasha and Cody Kertscher, Alixander Burkhart and Shawna Igou.

Inez was preceded in death by her parents and her son Jerry.

Funeral services for Inez Burkhart were Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at the First Baptist Church in Webb with Pastor Kent W. Schmidt officiating.

The Smith-Loterbour-Powers Funeral Home in Laurens was in charge of the arrangements.
