Georgia E. Campbell, age 79, of Storm Lake, died on Saturday, July 13, 2002, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake following a lengthy illness.

Georgia Eleanora Johnson was born May 22, 1923, in Afton Township, Cherokee County, the daughter of Edwin "Ed" and Norma (Johnson) Johnson.

She graduated from Alta High School and then attended Buena Vista College to earn a 2-year teaching certificate. She taught in Havelock and Alta.

She was married to Verlond "Barney" Campbell on June 18, 1944, in Alta. The couple made their home in Alta and LeMars until Barney was called to service during World War II. Georgia then moved to Storm Lake. After the war, the couple returned to LeMars. They then lived in Vermillion, South Dakota, before returning to Storm Lake in 1957.

Georgia worked for Dr. Cornish in Storm Lake and from 1975-1988 owned and operated The Shoe Box shoe store in Storm Lake with her husband.

She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church where she participated in WELCA and other church activities. Having a great love of nature, Georgia was an avid birdwatcher. She also took classes to study wildflowers and desert flora while wintering in the Southwest. She was a member of the Storm Lake Garden Club and the Delphian Club. She enjoyed oil painting and was active at the Witter Gallery at the Storm Lake Library.

She is survived by her husband, Barney of Storm Lake, two sons, Bruce Campbell and his wife, Martha and Brian Campbell all of Valley Center, Kansas; three grandchildren, Michael, Carrie and Chelsea; two sisters, Jeanette Buckingham and her husband, Craig, of Alta and Hazel Howard of Ankeny. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Her parents and a sister Gladys D. Johnson died earlier.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Reverends Connie Spitzack and Mark Youngquist officiating.

Burial will be in the Scandinavian Cemetery in Alta. The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Stained Glass Window Fund at St. Mark Lutheran Church.
