July 02, 1949 - August 07, 2010Kathleen Jane Cramer, the daughter of Lawrence Jay and Mary Jane (Wollen) Ritter was born July 2, 1949, in Sioux City, Iowa, and died Saturday, August 7, 2010, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in the Clarkson Tower in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 61 years, 1 month and 5 days.
Kathy attended Sac City Community Schools, graduating from the Sac City High School with the Class of 1967. She then went on to Nettleton Business School in Sioux City, completing her training in 1968.
On March 2, 1968, Kathy was united in marriage to William C. Cramer at the First United Methodist Church in Sac City, Ia. They settled in Newell before moving to West Union and later to Decorah where their first son, Brian, was born. They moved to Perry in 1973 where Kathy worked for J.C. Penny’s and a local interior decorating store. Kathy and her family moved to Audubon in May of 1977 where son Brad was born in 1978. Kathy worked as a radio dispatcher for the Audubon County Sheriff’s department for 28 years retiring in 2007.
Over the years, Kathy earned an Associate of Arts degree from Des Moines Area Community College in 1986. She later completed her training to be a Lay Minister in 2007. For a brief time, she was the Chaplain for the Friendship Home in Audubon. In 2007, Kathy became the full time Pastor for both the Gray United Methodist Church in Gray, Iowa, and the Ross Calvary United Methodist Church in Ross, Iowa, where she served until January 2010, retiring because of increasing health concerns.
Kathy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, Rainbow, and Eastern Star where she at one time served as the Worthy Matron. She was a member of the Republican Women and the Garden Club and was a past president of both organizations. Kathy was an active in many community organizations. In 1985, Kathy was elected to the Audubon City Council, and she has remained actively involved for 25 years. During the past 2 years, she served as mayor pro-tem.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her mother-in-law Pauline Cramer and her father-in-law Fred Cramer.
Kathy is survived by her husband Bill Cramer of Audubon, Iowa; her two sons: Brian and wife Sherri Cramer of Creston, Iowa, and Brad and wife Natalie Cramer of Lacey, Washington; her grandchildren; Jessica, Caleb, Olivia, and Kaden; her brother Larry Ritter of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; her sister-in-law Marty and husband Chuck Petzoldt of Mason City, Iowa; her niece Kelli and husband Eric Flaherty of Mason City; her nephews: Jay and wife Kristi Ritter of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Todd and wife Suzie Sherburne also of Sioux Falls; and her great-nephews Brayden and Keigan Flaherty.
Memorials may be made to the Kathy Cramer Memorial Fund or the First United Methodist Church.
The family will meet with friends Monday evening, August 9, 2010, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.
The Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be conducted by Pastor Jud Stover on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa.
Inurnment will be at 3:00 P.M. in the Corey Grove Cemetery near Sac City, Iowa.
