Troy R. Chindlund, age 47, of Cherokee, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2010, at his residence of Cherokee.

Troy was born on April 11, 1963, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alta and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland. He graduated from Sutherland High School with the class of 1981.

Following graduation, he began his working career with Mid American Lamb in Paulina, Heinsohn Digging and Tiling in Rembrandt, Truesdale Coop Elevator, and Wetherall Construction in Storm Lake. Troy worked at Wilson Foods/ Tyson from Aug. 22, 1989, until the time of his death.

Troy and Ann Marie Engel were united in marriage on Aug. 25, 1984, in Early. They had five children together. On Sept. 10, 2009, he married Kathy Morse and became a stepfather to two children.

Starting with his children and his large extended family, Troy had many loves in his life. He spent much of his time with them fishing, camping at Rendezvous and traveling. He also enjoyed writing poetry, editorials and short stories. His words will live on forever.

He was active politically and a member of UFCW local 179. He also had an active interest in Native American history and his German heritage.

He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Scott Chindlund; grandparents, Frances and Conrad Chindlund, Isabelle and Albert Rassler; and his friend Kevin Iehl.

He is survived by his parents, Ronald and Annabelle Chindlund; wife, Kathy; son, Thomas Moore, only daughter, April, and sons Joshua, Shannon, Matthew and Kevin and their mother Ann; step-children, Rhaimy and Schyler; his grandchildren, Mercedes, Chase, Thomas Jr., and Braydon Moore and Lukas Chindlund; step-grandchildren, Deven, Jaiden, Schyler Jr. and Bryden Morse; his sister, Juli and husband, Scott and their children, Laura, Erik and Nathan; brother, Russell and wife Diane and their children, Amanda, Katie and Ryan; brother, Cory and wife Angie and their children, Tiffany, Allison, Cheyenne, Caleb, Victoria, Clay, Cole, Sara and Cody; and also numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Son, brother, husband, father and friend, Troy was and is loved. His quick wit, sense of humor, big bear hugs, giving heart and charming personality will be missed by all.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at 10 a.m. at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta with Rev. Leroy Reimer officiating. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery of Alta. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta is in charge of the arrangements.
