Obituary from the Storm Lake Pilot Tribune, November 12, 1959, page 2
Henry L. STEIG, son of George and Mary ODEIT STEIG, was born in Storm Lake on April 8, 1884. He passed away November 6, 1959 in his 76th year.
He attended the Storm Lake public schools, graduated from high school with the class of 1904, having made a fine record as an outstanding athlete. He was united in marriage to Anna MATSON at her farm home near Storm Lake on November 28, 1907. To this union 3 children were born, Lucille, Helen, and Ruth. They lived on farms near Storm Lake all of their married life, for they loved the farm life with its nearness to all growing things. He kept an interest in education and community life, serving as secretary to the Washington Twp school board at the time of his death, one of the many offices he had held during the last 40 years. He loved and understood children and young people, and they loved him in return, so he cherished every hour when he could enjoy the presence of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a sincere and clean living man, an upright citizen, a good neighbor, kindly dispositioned toward all, a loving and loyal husband and father.
He is survived by his wife, Anna, three daughters, Lucille (Mrs. Gilbert C. BARNES) of Waukesha, WI; Helen (Mrs. A. K. RUEBEL) of Spirit Lake; and Ruth (Mrs. Wayne B. PORTER) of Hartley; 7 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren; also 4 brothers, George of Cherokee; Joe of Lake City; Clarence and Julius of Storm Lake; 2 sisters, Mrs. A. E. SKEELS and Mrs. Claude SKEELS, both of Storm Lake; and by other more distant relatives. One sister, Mrs. Leslie PETERSON, preceded him in death. Services were held Monday, November 9th at 2 o'clock from the Sliefert Funeral Chapel. Rev. C. R. BUCKWALTER officiated. Burial was in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Bearers were Earl GUTEL, Bill GUTEL, Art DIERWECHTER, Pago JOHNSON, Oscar NELSON, and Eck HOLMES. Mrs. Harvey KOTH, organist, accompanied Mrs. Bill WEATHERLY as she sang "Beyond The Sunset" and "Rock Of Ages".
