Obituary from the Storm Lake Pilot Tribune, Thursday, July 10, 1969

John Charles MATSON, son of Charles Perry and Anna NATTRESS MATSON, was born at Gratiot, WI on April 28, 1874. He was 1 of 4 children, 2 have preceded him in death. At the age of 95 years 2 months and 6 days he passed away at the Buena Vista County Hospital on July 4, 1969. MATSON came with his family to a farm near Storm Lake in 1888. As a young man he taught school several years in the Truesdale area. Gertrude DIPLORKA became his wife on June 23, 1909. She preceded him in death in 1959. Five children survive MATSON, Mrs. Floyd SPOONER, Storm Lake; Lois DAVIDSON of CA; Maude MATSON, Marcus; Mrs. Guy FELTON, Sioux Rapids; and Charles MATSON, West Chester, PA. Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. Henry STEIG; 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends and other relatives. Rev. George EDGERLY officiated at the funeral for MATSON in the Sliefert Memorial Chapel in Storm Lake on July 8 at 2 pm. Organist for the service was Mrs. John PITSTICK. Soloist was James JENSEN. Interment was in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Bearers were Frank SPOONER, Lyle PETERS, Joe THOMPSON, Robert SCHROLL, Larry BIGGE, and Gary SPOONER.
