Everett M. Delp - June 10, 1917 - June 21, 2010

Everett M. Delp, age 93, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Monday, June 21, 2010, at the Buena Vista Manor Care Center at Storm Lake.

Everett Martin Delp, the son of David and Laura (Van Pelt) Delp, was born in Storm Lake, Iowa, on June 10, 1917. He lived his youth and received his education in Storm Lake and was a 1936 graduate of the Storm Lake High School.

Everett was united in marriage to the love of his life, Kathryn Petyon, on July 16, 1939. Together this couple was blessed with two sons, Wilbur and Ray.

Following their marriage, Everett worked as a press operator in Waterloo and then moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where he attended mortuary school.

Following his mortuary education, he returned to Waterloo where he did factory work while also serving his funeral home apprenticeship. Throughout his 20 year career as a funeral director, Everett worked for funeral homes in Marshalltown, North English, and Fort Madison, Iowa.

He then moved to California for a year where he lived with his son, Wilbur, prior to returning to Iowa in the 1970’s. Upon his return, he worked for McCann Construction from Sioux City, Iowa. He retired from the construction business but continued doing odd jobs and handyman tasks until the age of 85.

Since November 15, 2005, Everett has made his home at the Buena Vista Manor Care Center in Storm Lake.

Everett attended the Church of Christ in Alta, Iowa. He enjoyed following the activities of his grandchildren, and he also liked dancing and fishing. He held a membership in the Spencer Moose Lodge.

Everett’s life is remembered by his family which include his sons: Wilbur and Katherine of New Castle, CA, and Ray and Betty of Storm Lake, IA; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; two brothers, Edgar (Cheryl) Delp of Storm Lake, IA, and Wayne Delp of Hobe Sound, FL; his sister, Laureen (Dale) Brunning of Storm Lake, IA; his sister-in-law, Norma Delp of Storm Lake, IA; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathryn in 1947, a stillborn daughter; and 4 brothers: Earl, Ivan, Richard, and Melvin.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Cory Grove Cemetery in Sac City, Iowa.
