Ann Mein, age 62, of Storm Lake, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at her home after a courageous 6-year battle with colon cancer.

Ann Groff was born August 26, 1939, in Hartley, the daughter of Myrl and Hulda (Recher) Groff. She graduated from Hartley High School with the class of 1957. She received a BA in education from Wayne State College in 1961 and in 1980 earned her MA in Special Education from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.

On December 27, 1962, she was married to Robert Patrick Mein at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Holstein. The couple made their home in Holstein before moving to Storm Lake in 1966.

Ann began her teaching career in Holstein as a Home Economics teacher. In the Storm Lake Community School District, she taught Special Education after earning her master's degree. She retired in 1999.

She was a member of the Church of Saint Mary and served for many years as a member of the board of directors of Faith, Hope & Charity and the Heart of Gold Foundation at FHC. She also held memberships in the Storm Lake Teacher's Association and the Iowa State Education Association.

Ann will be remembered as a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother and for touching the lives of so many children during her distinguished teaching career.

Her family includes her husband Bob of Storm Lake; three daughters: Christine Marie Stark and her husband Joe of Eden Prairie, MN, Traci Ann Cole and her husband Ray of Overland Park, KS, and Kimberly Michelle Mein of Sioux City; a son Robert Matthew Mein of Storm Lake; and 4 grandchildren: Kathryn, Kelly and Reid Stark and William Cole. Also surviving are a brother Roger Groff and his wife Connie of Hartley; a sister Lois Jacobsen of Milford and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her daughter, Valorie Clair Mein, on May 28, 1977.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake with the Reverend Robert Schimmer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Ann's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society and to the Heart of Gold Foundation at Faith, Hope & Charity in Storm Lake.
