Oscar Anderson - Jan. 3, 1908 - June 22, 2002

Oscar (Ossie) Anderson, 94, of Alta, formerly of Rembrandt, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Oscar Gustaf Anderson was born January 3, 1908, the fourth of thirteen children, to Carl and Christine (Englund) Anderson of rural Albert City. He was baptized May 4, 1908, and confirmed May 20, 1923, in the Lutheran Church in Albert City. He attended a country school across the road from his home until grade eight. He began working on the home place after that and worked on neighboring farms. He was employed by Thieman Harvester Company for four years and drove a grocery truck for three years.

Ossie married Alice Marguerite Bertness of Rembrandt on July 21, 1934, at the Sioux Valley Lutheran Church. They lived for several years in the tenant house on the Bertness home place located 1/4 mile north of Rembrandt. In 1939, they moved to a farm in rural Sioux Rapids located on the corner of highways 71 and 10. In 1952 they returned to the home farm place near Rembrandt, living there until Ossie's retirement in 1973 when they moved to Rembrandt.

Ossie was a farmer and father of two daughters, Judy and Jeanette. He was a faithful member of the Little Sioux Valley and Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Rembrandt. He served as an ASCS Committeeman for more than ten years, was involved with the Buena Vista County Historical Society, served on many church boards over the years, and volunteered in the community of Rembrandt, especially at the ball park.

Preceding Ossie in death were his parents, his wife Alice on November 10, 1995, four brothers, Arvid, Martin, Theodore, and Paul Anderson, and four sisters, Florence Anderson, Alma Wise, Irene Barrett, and Ann Johnson.

Survivors include his daughters and their husbands, Judy and Norm Harris of Des Moines, and Jeanette and Mark Anderson of Sauk Centre, MN; five grandchildren, Kurt and his wife Vicki Harris of Sturgeon Bay, WI, Kelly Jo and her husband Bryan Kellenberger of Algona, Kyle and his wife Lauri Harris of Wilmette, IL, Kathy and her husband Dan Beckermann of Sauk Centre, MN, Laurie and her husband Rick Jennissen of Sauk Centre, MN; and six great-grandchildren, Tara Beckermann, Greta, Jamie, and Maria Jennissen, Dakotah Kellenberger and Grace Harris. Also surviving are two brothers, Andrew Anderson of Newell and Clifford and his wife Irene Anderson of Florida; two sisters, Adelia Roberts of Albert City and Mildred and her husband A.E. Lindekugal of Fairmont, MN; one sister-in-law, Jean Anderson of Laguna Hills, CA; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services for Ossie will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2002, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Rembrandt, with Pastor Woody Clauson officiating. Burial will be in the Little Sioux Valley Cemetery.
