Laura Mae Caughey, age 94, of Newell, formerly of Storm Lake, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at the Newell Good Samaritan Society of Newell.

Laura Mae Caughey was born on Oct. 27, 1915, in Delores River, Colo., the daughter of William and Effie (Phelps) Virden. She was married to Wesley William Caughey on Sept. 6, 1933, in Reno, Nev. To this union two daughters were born, Helen and Bonnie.

Laura worked as a supervisor at Faith, Hope and Charity for several years and also at the Sail Inn Motel. She was a member of the Alta United Methodist Church and was very active with her husband in the Moose Lodge of Storm Lake.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wesley; a daughter, Helen Holmes; two brothers, Everett Virden and Floyd Virden; and a son-in-law, Oscar Moize.

She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Moize, of Sulfur Springs; a son-in-law, Robert Holmes, of Storm Lake. She was blessed with grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

A funeral service was held on Friday, June 11, 2010, at the Alta United Methodist Church of Alta with Pastor Terry W. Pollard officiating. Burial was at the Woodlawn Cemetery of Alta. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta was in charge of the arrangements.
