Lucille A. Morenz - Dec, 9, 1909 - June 8, 2010

Lucille A. Morenz, age 100 years and 6 months, of Newell, Iowa, and formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell.

Lucille Anna Mohr, the daughter of Hans O. and Louise (Schug) Mohr, was born near Auburn, Iowa, on December 9, 1909. She was baptized in March of 1910 at Peace Lutheran Church in Ulmer, Iowa, and confirmed at that church on April 5, 1925. Lucille received her education at a country school near her home in Ulmer.

On July 25, 1934, Lucille was united in marriage to Leo Morenz at Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn, Iowa, and this couple was blessed with two sons: LeRoy and Lyle. Following their marriage, Leo and Lucille farmed in the Yetter, Iowa, area until moving to Buena Vista County in 1940. In 1949, they purchased a farm near Storm Lake and continued in the farming vocation.

Lucille will be remembered by the many customers she served as their waitress in restaurants in the Storm Lake Community. She worked in that profession well into her 70’s. Leo died on July 10, 2002, and Lucille remained on the family farm until entering the nursing home in Newell on May 5, 2008.

Lucille was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She raised chickens on their farm along with having a large garden every year. Lucille also enjoyed dancing to Lawrence Welk and had done some sewing and handwork in her earlier years.

Those who will always honor and cherish her memory include her two sons and their wives: LeRoy and Roberta Morenz of Newell, Iowa; and Lyle and Karen Morenz of Storm Lake, Iowa; her grandchildren: John (Becky) Morenz of Harlan, Iowa; Gary (Tricia) Morenz of Newell, Iowa; Brent (Andrea) Morenz of Plankinton, South Dakota; Amy (Broc) Auen of Newton, Iowa; her great grandchildren: Marissa, Maddi, Melanie, Megan, Mickey, and Melea Morenz; Taylor Morenz; Jace and Brenen Auen; and 2 step great grandchildren, Victoria and Kyle Lehman; nieces; nephews; other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 2 infant granddaughters; 1 infant great grandson; 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 11, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 10, 2010, at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake with the family present during that time. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
