Vivian I. Spurbeck, age 68, of Newell, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at Loring Hospital in Sac City following a brief illness.

Vivian Ione Chapman was born November 10, 1933, at home near Aredale, the daughter of Oscar and Thelma (Bobst) Chapman. She graduated from Greene High School.

On December 14, 1952, she was united in marriage to Walter J. Spurbeck at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waverly. The couple has lived in Newell since 1962.

Vivian worked as the Activity Director at the Newell Good Samaritan Center for ten years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Darlene Kron, and her brother, Marvin Chapman.

Vivian is survived by her husband, Walter of Newell; a son, David Spurbeck of Clearwater, FL.; two daughters, Deborah Anderson, and her husband, Brian, of Sioux City, and Ellen Hohensee, and her husband, Roger, of Pocahontas; six grandchildren; Chad Wilson, Cody Wilson, Brad Wilson, Joshua Hohensee and his wife, Heather, Brian Hohensee, and Alyse Anliker and her husband, Charles; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Nation, and her husband, Charles, of Indio, CA., and Lavonne Beguelin, and her husband, Francis, of Bristow; a brother, Melvin Chapman of Rancho Cucamonga, CA.; and by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at the Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake with Pastor James Bartsch of Bethel Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Newell Cemetery.
