Loran Don Hartwig, 65, of Sioux Rapids, died at the Buena Vista Medical Center, January 5, 2002.

Loran was born May 1, 1936, the son of Frank Carl and Jessie Edith (Wright) Hartwig, in Rockwell City. Loran graduated from Lytton High School in 1955 and then graduated from trade school.

Loran served in the Reserves for two years. On June 12, 1960, he married Janice Laursen; they were married for 30 years when she passed away. He worked for 17 years at Hy-Grade until its closing. He later owned and operated his own body shop. He worked as a salesman at Fitzpatrick Chevrolet, Buick and drove truck for Christiansen Brothers/Russell Ready Mix. He was a board member of Faith United Assembly of God. Loran enjoyed antique car restoration, cooking, model railroading, raising horses and dogs. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and learning many new things.

On September 4, 1993, he married Juanita Martin.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita, of Sioux Rapids; his mother, Jessie Hartwig, of Storm Lake; one son, Rodney and Jennifer Hartwig, of Atlantic; one daughter, Michele and Bruce Cameron, of Sioux Rapids, five grandchildren, Benjamin and Sarah Cameron, Jacob, Alexandra, and Jessica Hartwig; three-step sons, Dennis Martin, Colorado Springs, Colo., David and Brenda Martin, Sherman, Texas, Douglas and Deb Martin, of Storm Lake; seven step-grandchildren, Cassie Lenz and Aaron Martin, Brianne, Travis, and Dylan Martin, and Rochelle and Nathan Martin; three brothers, Harlan and Jean Hartwig, Storm Lake, Dr. Nolan and Nancy Hartwig of Ames, Frank and Judy Hartwig of Merced, Calif.; his mother-in-law, Virginia Baker of Storm Lake; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his father, Frank Hartwig, and his first wife, Janice Hartwig.

Funeral Services were held for Loran Hartwig on Tuesday, January 8, 2002, at Faith United Assembly of God Church, Storm Lake, with Pastor Darrell E. Schmid officiating.

Interment was in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Barker Funeral Home, Alta, was in charge of arrangements.
