Marie E. Peterson, age 93, of Storm Lake, formerly of the Galva area, died Tuesday, November 27, 2001, at the Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake following a lengthy illness.

Marie Elizabeth Peterson was born July 27, 1908, in Yakima, Washington, the daughter of James and Clara (Keefe) O'Meara. She was baptized on July 29, 1908, in Yakima. She graduated from the Galva High School in 1926 and attended the State Teachers Extension School in Cherokee. She taught in country schools in Holstein and Galva.

Marie was married to Ralph W. Peterson on March 11, 1929, at Schaller. She was a homemaker and helped with the farm. They retired in 1966 and moved to Schaller. Following Ralph's death on August 26, 1984, Marie moved to McCord Manor in Storm Lake and in 1993 entered the Buena Vista Manor Care Center.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Rosary Society.

Marie's family includes: a daughter JoAnn Thomas, Petoskey, MI; three sons, Donald Peterson and his wife Jeanette, Galva, James Peterson and his wife, Betty, Greeley, Colorado, and Roger Peterson, Tustin, California; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; and a sister Evelyn Wanberg, Elkhart, Indiana.

Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers: Francis, Clare, and Roy; a sister Annette Rens and a great granddaughter, Rashell.

A funeral mass was celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Schaller with the Reverend Patrick O'Kane officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Schaller.
