Charlotte L. Halverson, 74, of Sioux Rapids, died Sunday, December 2, 2001, at her home in Sioux Rapids.

Charlotte Lucille Van Houten was born May 2, 1927, the daughter of Arnold and Alma (Heckathorn) Van Houten in Winnebago, Ne. She attended school in Ponca, Ne. and graduated from Greenville High School in 1945. She attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake for two years where she earned a teaching certificate. On June 11, 1950, Charlotte married Norman Halverson at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids.

She taught school in the country south of Spencer for three years and at the Rembrandt Consolidated School for four years.

Charlotte was a member of the First Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies Aid. She loved spending time with her family and cooking.

Survivors include her husband Norman of Sioux Rapids; two sons, Kent and his wife Glennis Halverson of Alta, and Brian Halverson of Sioux Rapids; five grandchildren, Mindy and husband Mark Rieling of Lytton, Janell and Jennifer Halverson of Sioux Rapids, Tara and husband Matt Meyer of Alta, and Garrett Halverson of Alta; and one great-grandson, Ryan Joseph Meyer.

Also surviving are two sisters, Dolores and her husband Robert Zimmer of Milford, and Genevieve and her husband Merlin Bertness of Arnolds Park, and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Charlotte Halverson will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 5, 2001, at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids with Reverend Ray Miller and Dean Maiden officiating.

Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m, Tuesday, with the family present from 6 - 8 p.m., at the Sliefert Redig Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids.
