Elsie P. Malcom, age 83, of Storm Lake, died Monday, December 3, 2001, at her Storm Lake home of complications of cancer.

Elsie Pearl Lindsay was born January 5, 1918, in Newell, Iowa, the daughter of Lee E. and Ella (Peterson) Lindsay. On July 19, 1922, her mother died, and she went to live with her grandparents, Benjamin and Isabella Lindsey. She graduated at the age of sixteen from Newell High School in 1934. She remained at home helping her grandparents on the farm.

Elsie was married to Floyd E. Malcom on June 11, 1939, at Maryville, Missouri. In 1943 they moved to a farm southeast of Storm Lake where they lived until moving to Storm Lake in October 1981.

Elsie became associated with the Christian Church as a young girl. She took great pleasure in flower and vegetable gardening. She enjoyed music, doing handwork, sewing and "ordinary" household tasks. Her kindness to others and her quiet acceptance of the graciousness and personal involvement of a caring God served as an example to her family and friends. She enjoyed watching sports of all kinds and following her children and grandchildren as they participated in them.

She is survived by her children; Charles Malcom, O'Fallon, Illinois, Carol and Ronald Bottin, Springfield, Missouri, Margaret and Milo Kindwall, Cherokee, Benjamin and Judy Malcom, Albert City, Bette Smith, Santa Rosa, California, Michael and Diane Malcom, Humboldt, Richard and Karen Malcom, Schaller, and Robert Malcom and Cindy Case, Ft. Collins, Colorado.

Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and numerous extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Floyd, her stepmothers, Emma and Ruth Lindsay and a half-brother, Burdette Lindsay.

Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Christ with Reverend Jack Barber officiating. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home, Storm Lake, any time after 2 p.m. on Thursday where the family will be present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorial funds have been established for the Church of Christ and the Storm Lake Area Hospice.
