Edna Konomos - May 10, 1907 - Sept. 22, 2001

Tuesday, October 2, 2001

Edna M. Konomos, 94 of Storm Lake and a former long-time resident of Kansas City, Mo., passed away suddenly on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001.

Edna was born May 10, 1907, in Agency to Edward and Edith Graves Wing. She attended grade school at Dickens and graduated from Spencer High School. After graduation and a six-week teaching course, she taught country school near Fostoria for two years.

In 1927 Edna moved from northwest Iowa with her family to Kansas City where she enrolled in a practical nursing school. After completion of nurses training and work as a nurse, she was a representative for the Elmo Cosmetics Company traveling in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas for 11 years. She then worked as a legal secretary in law offices in Kansas City.

She was united in marriage in 1952 to Michael D. Konomos, a prominent attorney in Kansas City. She worked as Michael's secretary until his retirement in 1979. Michael passed away June 7, 1993. At the time Edna was recovering from hip surgery.

Edna raised Scottie dogs and was active in the American Kennel Club, showing her Scottie dogs in competition in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa and Georgia, receiving many awards. Edna and Michael enjoyed many experiences traveling abroad, including Greece, which was Michael's birth place.

In 1990 Edna and Michael moved to their new home in northwest Iowa near their nephew and niece on their farm. They enjoyed their Iowa home and the countryside with their family and friends. They remained active in their political interest, charitable gifts and concern and love for America, which Michael instilled in all that he knew.

Edna entered the residential facility of Methodist Manor on Aug. 13, 1994. Edna's positive attitude was obvious as she enjoyed playing checkers and cards, making latch hook rugs, laughing and socializing.

Edna is survived by nephews, Allen and Gayla Sorenson, Sioux Rapids; Dale and Janice Sorenson, Alta; Bert Wing, El Paso, Texas; Michael's daughter, Vicki Bordman, St. Louis, Mo.; sister-in-law, Helen Wing, Nevada, Mo.; and her daughter Joyce Turner and family; great nieces Becky Fahrenkrog, Susan Sorenson, Sally Anderson, Sheila Bennett; and great nephews, Bob Sorenson and Steve Sorenson, along with their spouses and children.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; sister Thelma Sorenson Linka; brothers Ernest Wing and Herman Wing, and his wife Ruth; and brother-in-law Sigurd Sorenson.

Edna was a devoted aunt and will be missed by those who knew her.

Funeral services for Mrs. Konomos will be held Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at 9 a.m. at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City, Mo.
