Carol Fredericksen - June 14, 1917 - Mar. 10, 2001

Carol Fredericksen, 83, of Aurelia, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Carol Louis, the son of Mads and Dora (Lauridsen) Fredericksen, was born June 14, 1917, five miles north of Alta. He attended High View School. In 1942, he entered the United States Army where he served on the mule pack with a ski troop in Vail, Colo. He was then sent to surgical and medical school in the Army and stationed in Germany. He was discharged in 1946.

On July 4, 1943, he was united in marriage to Berniece Christine Pingel in Dakota City, Neb. He had worked as a farm hand at the age of 14 and returned to farm work following his time in the service. The couple began farming on his wife's family farm north of Aurelia in 1948 and bought the farm in 1960.

Mr. Fredericksen was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. The farm was his hobby and his job. He also enjoyed dancing, fishing, going out to eat in Anthon and his trips to Sloan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Eleanor Otto and Melva Porter and two brothers: Stanley Fredericksen and Dale Fredericksen.

Mr. Fredericksen is survived by his wife Berniece of Aurelia; one son Greyling and his wife Denise Fredericksen of Aurelia; one daughter Bobbie Gilleland of Aztec, N.M.; five grandchildren; five sisters-in-law: Lois Fredericksen of Florida, Theone Fredericksen of Owen, Wis., Bonnie Pingel Reed of Peterson, Madonna Chapman of Okoboji and Lucille Pingel of Rogers, Ark.; nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Fredericksen will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at St. John's United Church of Christ in rural Peterson. Pastor Fred Moore will officiate at the 11 a.m. service.

Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held today, March 13, 2001, from 1 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
