Margaret Zweifel, age 91, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Saturday, February 23, 2008, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Margaret C. Schmit was born on March 26, 1916, to Theodore and Clara (Braun) Schmit in Windom, Minnesota. Her family moved to the Leeds area of Sioux City, Iowa, where she attended schools at Hawthorne Grade School and Woodrow Wilson Junior High.
She was baptized as an infant into the Catholic faith and later confirmed at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Sioux City where she remained an active member until 1984. Her membership was then transferred to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Margaret had served on the Guild and was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
On May 18, 1934, Margaret was united in marriage to Jacob Zweifel in Sioux City. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Clara Marie.
Margaret valued her family, especially the time spent with her grandchildren. She was a woman who possessed a great sense of family as evidenced by her caring for her own mother for years. She worked hard to maintain a loving and comfortable home for her family. Over the years, Margaret enjoyed playing cards and volunteering at St. Michael’s Catholic Church while in Sioux City. Upon her move to Storm Lake, she found further enjoyment in assisting at Ressler Drug in Storm Lake.
Those left to cherish her memory include daughter, Clara Marie Porsch of Storm Lake; her three grandchildren: Michael Porsch and wife, Lori of Storm Lake, Cathy Fordyce and husband, Mark of Aurelia, Iowa, and Mark Porsch of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Josh Fordyce and wife Nikki of Sioux City, Brad Fordyce and wife Molly of Sioux City, Tara Fordyce of Aurelia, Alyssa, Nate and Jake Porsch of Storm Lake; nephew Robert Allard and wife Judy, and niece Carol Ann Tatloff and husband Larry, all of Rockford, Illinois; extended family and many friends.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jacob, in 1999; her son-in-law, Darrell Porsch; one brother, Leo Schmit; and one sister, Anna Allard.
