Dietrich E. “Dee” Reimann, age 82, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and formerly of Richmond, Virginia, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Dee was born October 16, 1925, in Reichenbach, Poland, the son of Ernest and Selma (Sabsch) Reimann. He immigrated to the United States with his family and later graduated from East Orange High School in New Jersey in 1943.
On July 1, 1943, Dee entered the United States Navy and proudly served his country during World War II. On July 23, 1946, Dee was honorably discharged at the rank of Ensign.
He was united in marriage to Carol A. Szikora on October 11, 1947, in New Jersey. The couple was blessed with six children: Susan, Sally, Nancy, John, Tom, and Carol Jean (C.J.).
Dee continued his education at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey, and graduated with a mechanical engineering degree. While working for Reynolds Metals for 40 years, his work took him all over the world. Dee always made it possible for his family to spend summers in New Jersey. Dee loved all kinds of animals, the beach and had a real passion for playing racquetball and squash. He and Carol enjoyed the time they shared gardening at the family home. Dee took very good care of his family while the whole family lived in: Mexico City, Colombia, Spain and Germany. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Susan (Peter) Rutledge of Sarasota, Florida; Sally Brecher of Storm Lake, Iowa; Nancy (Paul) Rader of Tustin, California; John (Margaret) Reimann of Portland, Maine; Thomas (Susan) Reimann of Richmond, Virginia; and Carol Jean (David) Fevola of Atlanta, Georgia; 16 grandchildren: Sally Ann, Carol, Katie, Timothy, John, Gina, Lisa, Kari, Erin, Katie, Caroline, Jennifer, Thomas, Stephen, John and David; three great-grandchildren: Danielle, Ben and Summer; a sister-in-law, Jean Malizia of Bradley Beach, New Jersey; extended family and many friends.
Dee was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol; and one son-in-law, Chet Brecher.
Memorial graveside services for Mr. Reimann will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2008, at Dale Memorial Park Cemetery in Chesterfield, Virginia. Burial with full military rites will be performed by the United States Navy. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
