Sau Van Thong - Apr. 8, 1926 - Apr. 16, 2008

Sau Van Thong, age 82, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at his home.

Sau Van Thong was born April 8, 1926, in Bahnsang Meungmu, North Vietnam, the son of Hao Vanh and Ong Thi Thong. He was married to Lun in 1950 in North Vietnam. Together they raised 10 children. Sau served with the French Army during the Vietnam conflict. In October 1975, he moved his family to the United States of America.

Sau was a man who loved life. He enjoyed gardening and he was very good at fixing almost anything that needed it. He took pleasure in a good game of cards. His greatest love, however, was his family, and especially his grandchildren in his later years. His kind and caring ways will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lun Thong of Storm Lake; children: Vieng Thong of Spencer, Iowa; Dawn and husband Vic James of Storm Lake; Neuy and husband Chanh Manivong of Fresno, California; Suzzan and husband Mike Khounlo of Storm Lake; Xuyen and husband Dave Johnson of Aiea, Hawaii; Hup and wife Tran Thong of Jordan, Minnesota; Seng and wife Jody Thong of Clovis, New Mexico; Heui Thong of Hopkins, Minnesota; and John and wife Deb Thong of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren: Christina Thong, Brandon Thong, Nith and husband Steve Young, Nom Baccam, Nancy Baccam, Robert Baccam, Barbie and husband Keo Synarong, Minna and husband Nalinh Sithep, Toni and husband Kevin Minard, Skyler Khounlo, Steven Lovan, Shawn Lovan, Kyle Lovan, Bianca Thong, Trianna Thong, Sabrina Thong, Alan Thong, Bryan Thong, Arianna Thong, Ashtyn Thong, Rayden Broyld, Daniel Tilley, Jacob Weaver and Bayley Weaver; great-grandchildren: Leighton Young, Addie Young, Keegan Alexander, Kianna Alexander and Quinton Alexander; brothers: Sam Thong, Nam Thong and Po Thong; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Sau was preceded in death by a son, Thou Thong; and brothers: Hom Thong, Noi Thong and See Thong.

Funeral Services for Mr. Thong will be held Saturday, April 19, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Inurnment will be in Storm Lake Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Friday, April 18, 2008, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present.
