Marjorie Buse, 81, of Laurens, passed away Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at the Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake.

Marjorie I., the daughter of Carl and Luella (Weise) Thygersen, was born March 6, 1919, in Havelock. She was educated in the Havelock and Gilmore City schools, graduating in 1936 from Gilmore City High School. She also had one year of business education.

On March 28, 1937, she was united in marriage to Maynand L. Buse in Pocahontas. The couple farmed in the Albert City-Marathon area from 1939 until her husband's retirement in 1973. Following their retirement, the couple then moved to Storm Lake, and in 1975, they moved to Laurens. Mrs. Buse operated a hobby shop out of her home and also taught college level crocheting.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the ladies circle. She belonged to the Happy 12 Club in Marathon and the 500 Club. She was very active in needlework and wove and braided rugs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Maynard on Jan. 16, 1986, and an infant son, Ronald Dean Buse.

Mrs. Buse is survived by two daughters: Karen and her husband David Lynn of Spencer and Donna and her husband Richard Hanson of Storm Lake; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one sister Betty and her husband Jerry Peluso of Long Beach, Calif. and one brother Merle Thygersen of Claremont, Calif.

Funeral services for Mrs. Buse were held Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at United Methodist Church in Laurens. Rev. Tony Pulatie officiated at the 10 a.m. service.

Burial was at Laurens Cemetery. The Smith-Loterbour-Powers Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
