Helen Lyman, 87, of Newell, passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at the Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake.

Helen, the daughter of William and Mary Helen (Holcomb) Jenkins, was born Sept. 20, 1913, in Shelby County. She attended rural Dow City Consolidated Schools.

On Sept. 20, 1932, she was united in marriage to Dean Lyman. Following their marriage, she was a homemaker and worked with her husband on various farms. She also did community services and later when the couple began their own trucking company, she was a bookkeeper.

Mrs. Lyman was a member of the Relief Corps of World War II. She was also a member of the Newell United Methodist Church; a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women's group, and a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the S.W.N. Club.

She enjoyed watching and helping her grandchildren as they grew up, making sure they were where they were supposed to be and on time. She was so very proud of the achievements and accomplishments by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons: Wilbur Dean and Robert Duane and five brothers: Jess, Rhett, Eugene, Rule and Ancil.

Mrs. Lyman is survived by one daughter-in-law, Marjorie Lyman of Storm Lake; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives: Wilbert and Marcella Jenkins of Storm Lake and Romanan and Evelyn Jenkins of Kiron; many relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lyman will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at United Methodist Church in Newell with Rev. Geneva Parsons officiating.

Pallbearers are Mitch Lyman, Mark Lyman, Mike Lyman, Bernie Gutz, Merle Lyman and Kerry Herzog.

Burial will be at Newell Cemetery. Farber and Otteman Funeral Home of Newell is in charge of the arrangements.
