Harold J. Meyer, age 92, of Truesdale, Iowa, died April 26, 2010, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell, Iowa.

Mr. Meyer was born November 2, 1917, in Truesdale, Iowa, the son of Edward and Blanche (Martine) Meyer. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he remained a lifelong member.

Growing up, Harold attended grade school and later graduated from Truesdale High School in 1935. Throughout his high school career, he was very active in sports.

Following high school, on June 13, 1942, Harold joined the United States Army where he served his country in World War II until he was honorably discharged on January 12, 1946.

On May 8, 1944, Harold was united in marriage to Margaret Lambert at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Together they were blessed with eight children: Paul, Mary, Teresa, Philip, Timothy, Barry, Sara, and Tony.

Harold was a member of the Truesdale Fire Department for 45 years. He owned and operated Standard Service Station in Truesdale and also worked for Miller Farm Drainage until he retired. Harold enjoyed fishing in his younger years. He loved gardening and attending auctions and garage sales. Harold treasured spending time with his family and will be dearly missed.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Paul Meyer of Storm Lake, Iowa; Mary (Jim) Leadley of Indianola, Iowa; Teresa Andrews of Sioux City, Iowa; Philip (Tammy) Meyer of Storm Lake, Iowa; Timothy Meyer of Omaha, Nebraska; Barry Meyer of Truesdale, Iowa; Sara (Chuck) Johnson of Lafayette, Oregon; Tony (Rita) Meyer of Desoto, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; brothers: Don (Janette) Meyer of Alta, Iowa; Richard Meyer of Des Moines, Iowa; extended family and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Blanche Meyer; his wife, Margaret; son, Andrew; two brothers, Jerry and Francis; two sisters, Dorothy and Millie.

Visitation: 5-8:00 p.m. April 28, 2010, at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. April 29, 2010, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa
Vigil Service: 7:00 p.m. April 28, 2010, at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa
Interment: April 29, 2010, at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa
