Ardelle Bruns - Dec. 11, 1925 - Sept. 09, 2008

Ardelle Bruns, age 82, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 09, 2008, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake.

Ardelle Taylor was born December 11, 1925, in Arthur, Iowa, the daughter of Ward C. and Rebecca (Falconer) Taylor. She was raised in the Arthur community and graduated from Arthur High School with the Class of 1942. Ardelle continued her education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Elementary Education.

During World War II, she worked building ships in Portland, Oregon, as a welder/riveter to support the war effort. Later, back in Iowa, Ardelle taught at elementary schools in Royal, Truesdale, and Early before becoming Registrar at her alma mater, Buena Vista College, in 1959. She continued as Registrar until 1969 when she became Assistant Director of Admissions, a position she held through 1979.

On August 2, 1948, Ardelle was united in marriage to Wallace N. Bruns at Saint Mary’s Church in Storm Lake. The couple was blessed with two sons: Terry and Timothy. Ardelle and Wally raised their family in Storm Lake where she was active in the community. She was a faithful member of Saint Mary’s Church, a member of WA-TAN-YE, Order of Eastern Star Chapter #471 and Rainbow Girls in Ida Grove. She enjoyed golfing in her free time.

A loving wife, devoted mother and mother-in-law, and treasured grandmother, Ardelle’s first love was always her family. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Terry L. (Cheryl) Bruns of Spirit Lake, Iowa; her son, Timothy T. (Marcia) Bruns of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin; her grandsons: Ryan Bruns, Taylor Bruns and Aidan Bruns; her granddaughters, Becca Bruns and Ella Bruns; extended family and many friends.

Ardelle was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wally; and two sisters: LaDonna Taylor and LaVaun Hoft.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2008, at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Storm Lake Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Friday, September 12, 2008, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home at 1615 Milwaukee in Storm Lake where a Legion of Mary Rosary will be recited at 6:00.
