Ira “Bud” Haag - June 13, 1916 - Sept. 14, 2008
Ira “Bud” Haag, age 92, of Newell, Iowa, died Sunday, September 14, 2008, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center.
Bud was born June 13, 1916, in Varina, Iowa, the son of Otto J. and Elizabeth (Porath) Haag. He was baptized as an infant in the United Methodist Church in Varina and confirmed his faith as a youth in the same church. Bud received his education in Varina, attending the Varina Public School through the eighth grade.
Bud loved to travel about, visiting neighboring town and eating at various restaurants. He would collect match books from the places he had visited. He sincerely enjoyed the time he spent at the Good Samaritan Center in Newell where he liked to help others and to participate in the many activities offered. Bud felt that the people at the Good Sam Center were like family to him. He also always thoroughly enjoyed his own family and holiday gatherings.
Bud is survived by his nieces: Joyce Hamell Ohrtman Knudson of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Carmen Hamell Bailey of Mission, Texas; Rhonda Kroska (Jim) Olson of Coalville, Iowa; nephew, Rolland Hamell of McCall, Idaho; and many friends.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Elizabeth Haag; his sisters: June Haag Kroska, Leola Haag Hamell and Inez Haag Hamell; his nephews: John Dean Hamell, Terry Kroska and Darrold Hamell.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2008, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell. Burial will be in the Varina Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.
A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home for one hour prior to the start of services.
