Donald D. Miller - Oct. 14, 1932 - Oct. 16, 2008

Donald D. Miller, age 76, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Thursday, October 16, 2008, at his home.

Donald Duane Miller was born October 14, 1932, in Storm Lake, the son of Emil and Esther (Buddenhagen) Miller. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Donald received his education in Storm Lake, graduating from Storm Lake High School.

Donald entered the United States Army on May 5, 1953. He served in the USAR Sig C, A Company, 32nd Signal Battalion, until he was honorably discharged on April 20, 1955. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany).

On May 10, 1965, Donald was united in marriage to Margaret Livesay at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple was blessed with three children: Gordon, Caroline and Dawn.

Donald was a long term employee of Hygrade until its closing and of Transcontinental Cold Storage until his retirement in November 2007.

Donald was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake as well as of the VFW Post 4704 in Schaller. He enjoyed watching sporting events and playing checkers and catch with his grandchildren as well as attending all his grandchildren’s sporting and school events. Donald’s family was always first in his heart and he treasured the time he spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. His kind and caring ways will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 43 years, Margaret, of Storm Lake; his son, Gordon (Bev) Miller of Storm Lake; his daughter, Caroline Richter of Storm Lake; his daughter Dawn (Russ) Moore of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; grandchildren: Kyle Richter, Brenna Richter, Aaron Miller, and Dawson Miller, all of Storm Lake, and Landon Moore of Sergeant Bluff; extended family and many friends.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Esther Miller; an infant granddaughter, Sarah Rose Miller; his sister, Joyce Brown; and his brother-in-law, Arthur Brown.

Funeral services for Mr. Miller will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2008, at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake with Pastor Bruce Lesemann officiating. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake with full military rites by the Schaller VFW Post 4704. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 19, 2008, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home, 1615 Milwaukee, Storm Lake, where the family will be present from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
