Robert D. Jensen, Sr. - May 5, 1924 - Oct. 17, 2008

Robert D. “Bob” Jensen, Sr., age 84, of Lakeside, Iowa, died Friday, October 17, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Center in Newell, Iowa.

Robert Dale Jensen was born on May 5, 1924, to Jens Peter and Christine (Andersen) Jensen in Omaha, Nebraska. He worked for his dad on the farm until he was drafted in 1949 and again in 1951. He was in Chicago, Illinois, during his second draft, and there he met his wife, Anna B. Izrael, at a roller skating rink. He loved skating and was a very excellent skater.

On February 23, 1952, Bob married Anna at the Trinity Slovak Lutheran Church in Chicago. They had four children: John, Anne, Ken and Bob Jr. The family stayed in Chicago until 1964. Bob worked as a carpenter for John Mansville Asbestos wood.

They came to the farm, north of Storm Lake in March of 1964. He and his son, Bob Jr., looked at many farms in Illinois before coming to Storm Lake. His family all worked together on the farm. Bob especially liked to mow hay in the road ditches. Bob Jr. bought a round baler from Duane Gerlach in the early 1980’s, and they baled thousands of acres. He and his family raised many hogs and started to call their farm Pig Town. In his later years, Bob still worked at the farm. He loved all the dogs, and they will miss him.

He leaves his wife of 56 years and his family: Anne Jensen and husband, Bob Steele, of Durango, Colorado; Ken Jensen and his wife, Sharim, and their children, Amy and David of Warrenville, Illinois; John Jensen and his wife, Janice, and their children, Jeremy, Derek and Stacey of West Chicago, Illinois; and Bob Jensen, Jr. of Storm Lake. He also leaves cousins: Mary Alice and Nancy Jensen, and Verna Mae Jessen, all of Omaha, Nebraska; and brother-in-law, John and wife Ann Izrael of Park Ridge, Illinois.

Preceding him in death are his sister, Mary Ann McShane and her husband, Ikem, of Omaha, Nebraska; his parents, Jens and Christine Jensen; his father- and mother-in-law, John and Anna Izrael; his cousins: Howard, Dick and Bud Jensen, and Kenneth Jessen, all of Omaha.

Bob will be missed by all his friends. He thoroughly enjoyed the Newell Good Samaritan Center and all the people who helped him. Thank you to Pastor Jerry Oakland and Pastor Jamie Cutler for all their visits.

Private family services will be held at a later date. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that anyone who wishes to honor Bob do so by sending a donation in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
