Pauline L. Douglass - Jan. 19, 1917 - Dec. 19, 2008

Pauline L. Douglass, age 91, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Friday, December 19, 2008, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Pauline Lunette Mudge, the daughter of Ray and May (Redenbaugh) Mudge, was born January 19, 1917, at her parents’ home in the Storm Lake, Iowa, area. She attended country schools before graduating from Sulphur Springs High School, Sulphur Springs, Iowa, in 1935. She then continued her education at Buena Vista College and studied art for a year.

Pauline was united in marriage to Gilbert Douglass on May 22, 1955, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She and Gilbert worked together in Douglass Clothing Company in Storm Lake until 1994 when Pauline retired. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Storm Lake. She greatly enjoyed her time spent in Arizona, picking fruits, going to flea markets, having breakfast at Denny’s and spending time with friends.

Pauline will be remembered as a thoughtful lady of independent disposition who lived her life with grit and determination. Her home on Lake Avenue in Storm Lake was her castle where she enjoyed feeding countless generations of squirrels and birds while savoring the view of beautiful Storm Lake from her backyard deck.

Among those who will cherish her memory are her son, Dr. Ronald (Jerilyn) Dreyer of Denison, Iowa; daughter Janet (Ken) Dreyer-Johnson of Kanab, Utah; daughter Barbara Douglass and her special friend, Steve, of Storm Lake; grandchildren: William Grieme, Janelle Zoch, Brenton Dreyer, Jessica Burk and Michelle Nebeker; great-grandchildren: Mercedes Dreyer, Kevin (Mary) Grieme, Stephanie Grieme, Erin Hallenbeck, Jason Hallenbeck, Evan Burk and Natalie Burk; one great-great-grandchild, Caden Grieme; her sister, Doris Clough of Storm Lake; extended family and many friends.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and May Mudge; her husband, Gilbert Douglass; and her sister, Lois May Rehnstrom.

Funeral services for Mrs. Douglass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2008, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Reverend Tom Hinshaw will officiate at the service. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call Friday, December 26, 2008, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake during which time the family will be present.
