Lorraine D. Galvin - May 7, 1929 - December 30, 2008

Lorraine D. Galvin, age 79, of Alta, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Lorraine Darlene Merideth was born May 7, 1929, in Sundance, Wyoming, the daughter of Ralph and Bessie (Aldrich) Meredith.

Lorraine attended Spring Center country school near Peterson, Iowa, for four years. Then, she went on to Larabee Consolidated School in Larrabee, Iowa, from which she graduated in 1947.

Lorraine was employed at the J. C. Penney store in Cherokee, Iowa, shortly after she graduated. She then worked at the Cherokee Mental Health Hospital as a secretary in the business office. She was employed at Farmers National Bank for a time, and then at Mello-Dent Seed Company north of Alta until she retired.

Lorraine was married to Paul B. Galvin on October 14, 1950, in Cherokee. The couple was blessed with two children: a son, Terry, and a daughter, Tangy.

Lorraine is a baptized member of the Church of Jesus Christ, Restored Cherokee branch. Lorraine enjoyed working in the church.

She was an animal lover, and she enjoyed gardening and canning the bounty she grew. She held a deep appreciation for all the beauty of God’s creation.

Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren held a special place in Lorraine’s heart. Her kind and caring ways will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Lorraine is survived by her son, Terry Galvin of Alta; her daughter, Tangy Mack, and her husband, Bill, of Storm Lake; three grandchildren: Mandy Rydberg, Kelly Rydberg and Nicole Jewell; three great-grandchildren: Jadyn, Mackenzie and Bryson; her sister, Maxine Magnussen; her brother, Ralph Merideth and his wife, Arbie; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and a host of friends.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three sisters.

A memorial service for Mrs. Galvin will be held on Friday, January 2, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Interment will be a private family graveside service. There will be no public visitation. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
