Maxine Grau, age 92, of Newell, Iowa, died April 14, 2010, at the Loring Hospital in Sac City, Iowa.
Elsie Maxine Andersen was born August 14, 1917, in Cedar Township, Iowa, the daughter of Bendt and Helena (Kladstrup) Andersen. She was baptized as an infant at the Nain Lutheran Church where she was later confirmed on May 29, 1931. Growing up, Maxine attended school in Lake Park, Iowa, and in Newell, Iowa, where she graduated on May 24, 1934.
On February 25, 1940, Maxine was united in marriage to Ejner T. Grau at the Nain Lutheran Church in Newell. Together they were blessed with one daughter, Sheila Elaine.
Maxine worked as a clerk at Peterson’s Grocery Store, the Buena Vista Treasurer’s Office, and also the Recorder’s Office. She loved crocheting, knitting, and needlepoint. One of Maxine’s special memories includes her 90th birthday party at the Allee Mansion in Newell.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Sheila (Gaylord) Sliefert; her grandchildren: Michael Scott (Amy) Sliefert; Dawn Michelle Malloch; Lorie Beth Sliefert; her great grandchildren: Amanda Fay; Alaina Michelle; step-great grandchildren: Danielle Major and Josh; Brianna Steele and Andrew Steele; extended family and friends.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Bendt and Helena Andersen; her husband, Ejner; sister, Mayta; brother, Weldon (Erma); brothers-in-law: Richard (Thora); Ivan (Ruth); and Arlen.
Visitation: 5-8:00 p.m. April 16, 2010, at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell, Iowa
Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. April 17, 2010, at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, Iowa
