***************

Frank Conner

Francis Marion Conner died of septicemia at the residence of his brother Aaron Conner at Alta, Ia., Tuesday, Feb. 15, 1898, aged 46 years, 6 months and 26 days.

Francis M. Conner was born at Shell Rock, Ia., July 19, 1851, and moved with his parents and settled in the neighborhood of Manchester, Ia., in 1862. He was married to Miss Hortense Austin April 2, 1871, after which he moved to Manchester where he has since resided until Oct. 7, 1897, when he came to Alta where he was employed by his brother A. Conner as clerk in the mercantile business. He had been in failing health for several weeks, but his condition was not considered critical until a few days prior to his death. About four weeks ago he was affiliated with a large carbuncle, but he seemed to have recovered from this ailment and was feeling quite comfortable until Sunday, Feb. 6, when he was taken with a severe pain in the right shoulder and was confined to his bed, from whence he never rallied.

He was a kind and indulgent husband and father and was universally liked by all who had gained his acquaintance. His last days were spent peacefully and happily in the home of his brother where he lacked nothing that would add to his comfort, and surrounded by his family who loved him and tenderly cared for him.

The deceased leaves his wife and one child, a daughter, (Retha), and two brothers, Aaron Conner, of this place, and T. J. Conner, of Austin, Minn., to mourn his death. Services were held at the house Wednesday forenoon at 11 o'clock, Rev. C. E. Fisk of the Presbyterian church preaching an appropriate and touching sermon. A large number of relatives and friends followed the coffin to the depot, from whence, accompanied by his wife and daughter, the remains were transported to his former home in Manchester, Iowa, where final services were held Thursday afternoon and the body was consigned to the grave and laid to rest by the side of his father and mother.

CARD OF THANKS.
We desire to thank our friends and neighbors for their kind assistance and sympathy during our recent bereavement.

Mrs. F. M. CONNER, RETHA CONNER, MR. AND MRS. A. CONNER.
