Joy J. Pitstick, age 83, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Saturday, February 17, 2007, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Joy Janice Storck was born on March 13, 1923, in Battle Creek, Iowa, the daughter of Manuel Henry and Mabel Florence (Wilcox) Storck. She received her education and graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1940. Following graduation, Joy attended the University of Iowa and later graduated from Buena Vista College with a degree in Music.
Joy was a lifelong member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. She served as a deacon and elder, was a member of the church circle, and was the organist for 12 years. Her love of music was evident in the many ways she shared her talents, playing the violin as well as directing the church bell choir.
On June 30, 1945, Joy was united in marriage to John C. Pitstick in Fonda, Iowa. This union was blessed with four children: John, Mary, Deborah and Amy.
Joy was an active member of the community. She was a 50 year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Eastern Star, PEO, Tuesday Club, Melody Club, and Colonial Dames. Joy was an avid golfer, Hawkeye fan, Buena Vista University supporter and enjoyed needlework. Her family brought her much enjoyment over the years as she delighted in the times they spent together.
Survivors include her son John Pitstick and his wife Jana of Maple Grove, Minnesota; two daughters: Mary Dahm and her husband Stephen of Novato, California, and Amy Tipton and her husband James of Brownsville, Texas; son-in-law Dr. Michael Varenhorst of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren: John M. Pitstick and his wife Regina, Brenda Runci and her husband Vincent, Ann Taylor, Peter Dahm and wife Patricia, Elizabeth Broughton, Christopher Varenhorst, Eric Varenhorst, Benjamin Varenhorst, Thomas Varenhorst, Alex Varenhorst, Nick Tipton and Katie Tipton; great grandchildren: Trevor Taylor, Emma and Grace Pitstick and Gus Runci; nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John; daughter Deborah; three brothers: Mickey, Dean and Max; and one sister, Nancy.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake with Reverend Duane Queen officiating. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery.
Friends may call Monday from 5-7:00 pm at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
