Pearl D. Schwanz - Oct. 25, 1931 - Feb. 19, 2007

Pearl D. Schwanz, age 75, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Monday, February 19, 2007, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Pearl Sands was born October 25, 1931, in Danbury, Iowa, to Elmer and Matilda (Roggatz) Sands. She attended school in Anthon and graduated from Anthon High School in 1950. On March 30, 1953, Pearl was united in marriage to LeRoy E. Schwanz in Jackson, Minnesota. The couple was blessed with four children: Gary, David, Cindy and Tim.

Pearl was a loving wife and devoted mother who kept a warm and comfortable home for her family. She was employed at Aalf's Manufacturing in Storm Lake from 1968 to 1989 and then at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center from 1990 to 1994. She retired from the hospital in 1994.

Pearl and LeRoy enjoyed golfing, fishing and traveling together. Pearl liked to crochet and read in her spare time. Her family was always her first priority, and she treasured the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all those who loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Gary Schwanz of Sioux City, Iowa; son David Schwanz of Storm Lake; daughter Cindy Schwanz (Blake Trapp) of Aurelia, Iowa; son Tim (Kathy) Schwanz of Waterloo, Iowa; grandchildren: Erik (Amanda) Schwanz of Cherokee, Iowa; Matt (Rose) Schwanz of Cherokee, Iowa; Jeremy Schwanz of Waterloo, Iowa; Kevin Schwanz of Waterloo, Iowa; Ryan Schwanz of Waterloo, Iowa; and Adam Schwanz of Ida Grove, Iowa; great-grandchildren: Tyler Schwanz, Brandon Schwanz and Gracie Schwanz; brother Arnold (June) Sands of Correctionville, Iowa; sisters: Mildred Moore of Anthon, Iowa; Dorothy Parker of Anthon, Iowa; Laura (Walter) Williams of Sioux City, Iowa; and Louise (Jim) Gains of Casper, Wyoming; brother-in-law Virgil Colshan of Correctionville, Iowa; extended family and many friends.

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LeRoy; her brother, Darrel Sands; her sister, Ruby Colshan; and two brothers-in-law: Frank Moore and Wallace Parker.

Funeral services for Mrs. Schwanz will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2007, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Arrangements are by the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2007, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00.

The family requests that any memorials are directed to Storm Lake Area Hospice.
